Welcome, J.R. Turner!

AK: What was your writing experience like while penning these novels?

JT: I think I was nervous to work with a young protagonist at first, but over time, came to really enjoy Kaylee. She’s got such spunk, but she’s just as flawed as I was at her age. I loved letting loose and exploring the paranormal or supernatural elements in a horror series as well.

AK: What is your biggest fear for this series?

JT: I’m terrified I’m going to get some fact or detail wrong. I recently discovered that I had put the chapel on the third floor in the beginning of the book, and had it on the sixth floor toward the end. Little things like that could get me hate mail, so I’m happy I caught it in time.

AK: What was your biggest challenge as far as creating the story?

JT: Finding some way to make Kaylee an extreme fighter without getting too violent or having her carry weapons know girl her age should touch, let alone own.

AK: Was casting the characters a difficult process?

JT: Yes. I went through a few ideas before I chose Kaylee. I wanted to base her on the type of characters that Jennifer Garner usually plays—a tough as nails girl with a sweet side. But, that’s not easy to do when you’re character is under 18. So, with a bit of wiggling, Kaylee emerged!

AK: Which character was the most fun to write about as of right now?

JT: Madame Maggie was probably the most fun to write. She’s got a larger than life personality that’s just fun to play with.

AK: Do you have a favorite writing spot?

JT: I write on an antique secretary in my living room beside my 55 gallon fish tank. I love to watch the fish in winter. In summer, I’m happiest on the patio. Anywhere is really good, as long as I have my headphones in!

AK: Do you have any odd habits or quirks that you’d like to share?

JT: I’m a big chocolate fan and I love to have chocolate covered raisins beside my computer when I’m working on a big project.

AK: What is one thing most people do not know about you?

JT: I used to work as a tattoo artist.

AK: Which character do you relate to the most in the Extreme Hauntings series?

JT: Probably Kaylee’s mom. There’s a lot of her in me or vice-versa. She’s open to her kid and really interested in having a give-and-take conversation. Not so much the wag her finger and demand silence sort.

AK: Which do you enjoy writing for the most: good guys vs. bad guys?

JT: Heroines are my favorite to write—in any genre. So good gals would be most effective! :)

AK: Is there an expected close to this series? Is it stopping at four books? Six? Eight? One hundred?

JT: I promised 6 books in the series, but I’ve been invited to submit more if I would like to ;)

Awesome! Thanks for stopping by, Jenny!
