Cover Confessions: Valkyrie Rising, Velveteen, The Goddess Legacy, & More

Have you seen these yet?

Release Date: July 31st

So I haven't yet read book two of the Goddess Test series, Goddess Interrupted, though I plan to, but I've heard all-around good things about Carter's novellas.

The Goddess Legacy, according to Aimee Carter herself, will be released in paperback and e-book format, and will be a collection of 5 DIFFERENT NOVELLAS, from 5 different characters' perspectives!

Hmm... Interesting, right? I wonder which characters Aimee's picked out. Personally, I'm holding out for someone who ISN'T Kate or Henry. But *shrugs* that's just me. Watch Aimee's vlog for more info HERE.

Release Date: July 5th

DUDES. I am so jealous of you international folk who have access to this series. Though, I could be wrong. It has happened before *nods*. I'm hoping to order the first one, A Witch in Winter, from the Book Depository pretty soon, for the sake of my sanity.

You can click here for a short little blurb from the sequel.

I'm not the only one who's heard good things, right? And I LOVE THE COVERS.

Release Date: October 23, 2012

This is BOOK FOUR of the Caster Chronicles. I can't believe it's gotten along this far. I seriously had to do a double take.

Hey, did you guys hear that there is going to be a movie?

You can read about some of the casting choices .

And here's an informative video all about it .

This is what a book blogger had to say about this sequel:

"I'm attempting to be unbiased, but I absolutely LOVED this book. GOLDEN BLOOD (Book One in the Time Spirit Trilogy) was fantastic but BLACK BLOOD was even better. The tension and fast pace of this story made it impossible to put down."

I haven't read The Pledge by Kimberly Derting yet, but I ADORE her Body Finder series, though I've heard they're not even remotely the same. I've also seen mixed reviews for this one, but I do love the covers.

Historical Fiction? Paranormal Fantasy? UH. YES. PLEASE. Don't know when I'll find the time to read this one, but I definitely want to try out the series.

Here's the description of the first book:
What really happened to Anastasia Romanov?

Anastasia Romanov thought she would never feel more alone than when the gunfire started and her family began to fall around her. Surely the bullets would come for her next. But they didn't. Instead, two gnarled old hands reached for her. When she wakes up she discovers that she is in the ancient hut of the witch Baba Yaga, and that some things are worse than being dead.

In modern-day Chicago, Anne doesn't know much about Russian history. She is more concerned about getting into a good college until the dreams start. She is somewhere else. She is someone else. And she is sharing a small room with a very old woman. The vivid dreams startle her, but not until a handsome stranger offers to explain them does she realize her life is going to change forever. She is the only one who can save Anastasia. But, Anastasia is having her own dreams

I'm TOTALLY DIGGING THIS COVER. I love the transition from cover to cover. Now she seems to be breaking out, both metaphorically and literally O_O I haven't read this series yet, though I do own the first two books as e-books. I'm intrigued by this third book. I don't know what's going on, nor do I know what it is we have to 'reach,' but it sounds fun!

Got something to say about this series? Drop me a comment with your praises, because I sure want to know more.

I'm sure everyone and their grandmother has heard about this book by now, BUT GEEZUS SPICE THAT DESCRIPTION. And if you've read the excerpts that were passed around the blogosphere... YO. This book sounds positively brilliant. I just CAN'T CONTAIN THE EXCITEMENT.
A dark and tender postapocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war.

In a city where humans and Darklings are now separated by a high wall and tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war, sixteen-year-olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary, meet and do the unthinkable—they fall in love. Bonded by a mysterious connection, that causes Ash’s long dormant heart to beat, Ash and Natalie first deny and then struggle to fight their forbidden feelings for each other, knowing if they’re caught they’ll be executed—but their feelings are too strong. A book set in Norway? YUMMY. Another sexy Tuck to add to the list? I say please hand him over!
Nothing ever happens in Norway. But at least Ellie knows what to expect when she visits her grandmother: a tranquil fishing village and long, slow summer days. And maybe she’ll finally get out from under the shadow of her way-too-perfect big brother, Graham, while she’s there.

What Ellie doesn’t anticipate is Graham’s infuriating best friend, Tuck, tagging along for the trip. Nor did she imagine boys going missing amid rumors of impossible kidnappings. Least of all does she expect something powerful and ancient to awaken in her and that strange whispers would urge Ellie to claim her place among mythological warriors. Instead of peace and quiet, there’s suddenly there’s a lot for a girl from L.A. to handle on a summer sojourn in Norway! And when Graham vanishes, it’s up to Ellie—and the ever-sarcastic, if undeniably alluring Tuck—to uncover the truth about all the disappearances and thwart the nefarious plan behind them.

Deadly legends, hidden identities, and tentative romance swirl together in one girl’s unexpectedly-epic coming of age.

YOU GUYS. It's FINALLY HAPPENING. We are finally going to get the Wondrous Strange trilogy spin-off with Fennrys Wolf's story inside. *fist-pumps* HELL YES.
"Love is just the beginning... of the end."

Mason Starling is a champion fencer for Gosforth Academy, but she’s never had to fight for her life. Until now. When a ferocious storm rips through Manhattan and unleashes terrifying creatures onto Gosforth’s campus, Mason barely escapes alive. Without help from the mysterious stranger who appeared in the midst of the storm, she might not have made it at all. But now, in the aftermath, Mason’s life begins to spin dramatically, mystically out of control, and the only one who seems able to help her is the stranger who can remember nothing but his name: Fennrys Wolf.

As Mason and Fenn uncover more about Fenn’s past and the strange events that surround them, they realize that Mason’s family — and its dark allegiance to the ancient Norse gods — is at the center of everything. A predetermined fate seems to be closing in on Mason, but is it possible to change one’s destiny?

Readers who fell in love with Lesley Livingston’s Wondrous Strange trilogy and those who love Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series will be captivated by the sweeping romance and pulse-pounding action of Starling.

Oh, GOSH. There are SO MANY freaking awesome authors on this project. All of them writing paranormally amazing stories, naturally.

It’s human nature to wonder about life’s twists and turns. But is the future already written—or do you have the power to alter it?

And because I couldn't resist tossing this one in
HAVE YOU GUYS HEARD ABOUT VELVETEEN?!?

Release Date: August 28, 2012

My God, I don't even know what to say? I'm, for once, speechless.
But, go on, read the summary:
Velveteen Monroe is dead. At 16, she was kidnapped and murdered by a madman named Bonesaw. But that's not the problem.

The problem is she landed in purgatory. And while it's not a fiery inferno, it's certainly no heaven. It's gray, ashen, and crumbling more and more by the day, and everyone has a job to do. Which doesn't leave Velveteen much time to do anything about what's really on her mind.

Bonesaw.

Velveteen aches to deliver the bloody punishment her killer deserves. And she's figured out just how to do it. She'll haunt him for the rest of his days. It'll be brutal . . . and awesome.

But crossing the divide between the living and the dead has devastating consequences. Velveteen's obsessive haunting cracks the foundations of purgatory and jeopardizes her very soul. A risk she's willing to take—except fate has just given her reason to stick around: an unreasonably hot and completely off-limits coworker.

Velveteen can't help herself when it comes to breaking rules . . . or getting revenge. And she just might be angry enough to take everyone down with her.
What did I tell you? Don't you just wish you had this beautiful book in your hands?

Which ones are YOUR favorites?

I loved The Goddess Test, but sadly wasn't a huuuuge fan of Goddess Interrupted. However, I am super intrigued to read her novellas!! Especially to gain insight into the minds of other characters! I'm hoping for James and Ava.

Ahhh sooo excited for A Witch in Love! AUS and UK obviously rock, since it's published locally here :D You need to MOVE CLOSER! And not just because it's easier to stalk you, I promise. *shifty eyes*

I love the cover of Reached. Crossed unfortunately didn't live up to my love of Matched, but I still have high hopes for the third book. And eeee Beautiful Redemption! Especially after that Beautiful Chaos ending, eeek. SOO excited for the BC movie!

And ohmygosh Velveteen, Starling (even though I haven't read WS, this still sounds AWESOME), Valkyrie Rising.... WANT WANT WANT! Is 2012 the year of amazing novels or WHAT? SQUEEEE I'M READING BLACK CITY NOW. DID I MENTION... SQUEEEE?

And and and (because this comment isn't love enough already) FORETOLD. OMG. LAINI TAYLOR. SIMONE ELKELES. RICHELLE FRACKING MEAD. ROSE AND DIMITRI SHORT STORY. NEEDNEEDNEED.

Wow, Velveteen looks and sounds really interesting. And I liked The Goddess Test, but haven't gotten around to reading Goddess Interrupted.

Wow, so much prettiness all in one post! I pretty much want every single one of the books listed up there, there are so many great ones releasing this year! I adore the covers for the Kimberly Derting series, they're eerie and beautiful at the same time I think. Thanks so much for sharing these Asher, there are a few new ones that need to go on my list asap!

Asher_Knight said...

OH, MAN. YOU'RE READING BLACK CITY?!? I'm so JEALOUS. :K

OMG. SO FUNNY. I requested this and I mentioned Catastrophic in my request because that's EXACTLY what it reminded me of. Just a WAY darker version.

Asher_Knight said...

Because it's Kimberly Derting I feel as if I must read this other series.

Asher_Knight said...

Oh, man. YOU didn't enjoy Goddess Interrupted? Now I'm very scared to start it. I've been hearing mixed things about it, about as much as I heard of the first one, but the idea of this 5-novella story is intriguing.

AND I WISH I LIVED DOWN UNDER. But, alas, it's impossible right now. Thought living nearer to you and Sarah would be an extra benefit :D Sexy tanned men with Aussie accents aside XD

2012 has repeatedly surprised me with awesome books to read or look forward to. I just CAN'T WAIT to get my hands on some of these. And, oh, man, YOU'RE READING BLACK CITY TOO? *feels left out* Let me know how it is as soon as your done.

(That's okay, because I love your long comments.) I KNOW. I KNOW. So many authors I would just die to meet let alone read extra stories they write. I couldn't believe some of them signed on for the anthology. ROSE + DIMITRI FTW. I can't wait to read that!!!

Asher_Knight said...

To me, Velveteen strikes me as a darker version of The Catastrophic History of You and Me. Which makes me so much more excited since it's one of my favorite books. Goddess Interrupted I'm wary of. I'll be reading it this week, but... I'm worried.

Asher_Knight said...

Your eyes thank me, I know. They're just so beautiful to look at.

Asher_Knight said...

I know. Imagine when I was putting this together! I was up to my eyeballs in gorgeousness. And I'm so happy to help you add to your TBR. I know, despite how big mine is, I can always use more :D

Wow, I love seeing all the new covers coming out, I havn't read the second books in the Matched series and Goddess Test series yet so I must get on with those. I loved Matched but Crossed gets really mixed reviews. Asher, you would love A Witch In Winter, I read it a few books back and it was brilliant.
That Velveteen cover is soooo stunning, I had never even heard of that book before so I am going to put that on my list of books to read.
While we are on the topic of covers, don't you just hate it when half way through a series they change the design of the covers, they have done it with The Body Finder covers in the uk and also my final Vampire Academy book has a completely different design to the 5 before it, sooooo annoying!

Mimi Valentine said...

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, The Goddess Legacy!! Oh my gosh, I had no clue that Aimee Carter had a book like that coming out! I'm still waiting for my copy of Goddess Interrupted to arrive and I'm really excited to start it, so of course I'm excited about this one! ;)

And even though I didn't like the Pledge (although I LOVE The Body Finder series too!), I seriously love the cover for book two! It's so different from the first cover -- I mean, the red to the black really stands out! :)

I would start to list all the things I loved about each of these covers but this would turn into the longest comment ever so I have decided that AMAZING POST speaks for all! ;) Thanks for sharing, Asher! <3

So many wonderful looking books! And VELVETEEN! I am SO excited for that book. It's on Netgalley! (They better approve me LOL!)

I LOVE the cover for The Glimpse. There's just something about the simplicity of it that makes it stunning.

Rebecca (Kindle Fever) said...

Ahhh! Seriously awesome covers in here. :o I LOVE The Goddess Legacy and OMG The Essence?! I think I'm in love. That is seriously gorgeous! And after The Pledge I definitely can't wait to read it. Glimpse and Black City are also two favorites!

Yes... just... a gorgeous post! :D

Asher_Knight said...

I've seen so many mixed reviews on so many of these, but their covers tell a different story, one that is sucking me in and is urging to pick up each and everyone. VELVETEEN has got me so psyched, the anticipation is literally worming into my dreams, making me imagine angry ghosts and psychotic killers... Or it could be those unsolved murder shows my sister's so keen on watching. But you get the idea.

AND I KNOW. Like the Nightshade series? The first US cover is absolutely stunning, then they have to go and change the entire series to those duller versions. I was SO PO'd.

Asher_Knight said...

I just found out about The Goddess Legacy very recently, so this is as much news for you as it is for me. I'm going to be reading Goddess Interrupted later this week, so I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel about the series as a whole after this sequel.

*fist-bumps* *nods* BODY FINDER RULES. The covers are pretty gorgeous for The Pledge series.

I totally get it, Mimi. It WOULD be very difficult to name every good thing about each one *LOL*

Asher_Knight said...

XD Your eyeballs are pretty dazzled right now, aren't they? I was nearly drawn into a heart attack by some of these, they're so amazing. VELVETEEN. I KNOW. So perfect!

I want to, I want to, I want to read A Witch in Winter. Like, yesterday. :D

Asher_Knight said...

I requested Velveteen through edelweisse and I'm dying for my approval email. I NEED THAT BOOK SO BAD.

I heard that they changed the cover of Glimpse, which is why I put it up. It's much prettier than the one I saw.

Asher_Knight said...

They're so amazeballs some of these. The Essence IS gorgeous. I was like, Wow. It's so different, but at the same time it matches up with the first one. And I'm jealous of every single person who's reading Black City at the moment.

<33 Thanks!

Heidi said...

Ooooh, I LOVE the cover for The Glimpse.  I hadn't heard of this one before, but it sounds potentially interesting (I am getting  slightly wary of these books).  I'm a fan of simple covers to be honest.  I think Reached is okay, but don't like it as much as Matched or Crossed covers, but I'm pretty disappointed in the Valkyrie Rising cover.  I don't like the front and center model look in general, but I feel like they missed some cool opportunities there.

rogier said...

i love al those covers
but my favs r veleveeten/the glimpse and black city

Erica Haglund said...

I LOVE LOVE all these covers. They are stunning.

Erica Haglund said...

I love all these covers. They are just STUNNING.

Asher_Knight said...

Glimpse's cover is beautifully simplistic, I agree. I actually really like the Reached cover, though I'm not sure in comparison to its predecessors. I don't have a very strong opinion of Valkyrie Rising either way, but I do know what you mean about cover models disappointing.

Asher_Knight said...

*high fives* ESPECIALLY Velveteen. Can't wait to read them all!

Asher_Knight said...

Aren't they just? I can't get enough of staring at them.
