Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

HarlequinTEEN, April 24, 2012
You will kill. The only question is when.

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their "pets." In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.

Unregistered humans cling to fringes, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero...and turned vampire. Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She's passing for human...for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love.

Why I Want to Read It: First and foremost, the book is by JULIE KAGAWA, the mastermind behind one of my all-time favorite series of faerie books. She could've chosen to write about werewolves—aka my least favorite paranormal critter unless it's Twilight—and the wolfies turn me off bad, but I would've endured, and probably loved, the alleged story because I love Kagawa, I love her writing. The world-building topped off by her ability to express such vivid imagery, AND, added to that, her characters and their depth, grant her the power to lure me into anything. Secondly, she chose to write about my absolute favorite paranormal: vampires. Vampires in a post-apocalyptic setting! I pray every day that I get my hands on this book.

Fresh Faces:
*The following aren't necessarily books that I own, but just ones I hope to get to soon.

Torn (#2) by Amanda Hocking
St. Martin's Griffin, February 28, 2012
Freshman Year & Other Unnatural Disasters by Meredith Zeitlin
Putnam, March 1, 2012

Dust-Lined:

The Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling
Scholastic, July 1, 1999
Queen of the Dead (#2) by Stacey Kade
Disney Hyperion, May 31, 2010

And that's it for this week's glimpse into my TBR pile.
I look forward to showing you more of what's in My Big, Fat TBR Pile.

What's lingering in your to-read pile?

The better question is why would you NOT want to read this book?! Like you said... it's JULIE KAGAWA! I am sososososo excited for this book. I'm not really sure where vamps fall on my list of favourite supernaturals but I don't really feel as tired of them as so many other people seem to be.

(DUDE, THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS. YOU MUST READ IT!)

No, you're right. WHY WOULDN'T I? Julia Kagawa is so amazing, that this should be a default pick, an automatic reaction to the news that this release is ALMOST UPON US. And I could never get tired of vampires. Seriously. Nothing could stop me from reading about them.

I KNOW :( I'm a failure as a reader, because I'M SO BEHIND ON THE HP SERIES. I hate myself for being so behind, but it's so hard to keep track of my TBR *cries* I will read it soon, though! REALLY, I will. :)

If you want, I'll reenact the happy dance I did when I found out that Kagawa was writing a vampire series! It might of looked like I was having a spaz attack, but it was just my way of celebrating something EPIC!

THE IMMORTAL RULES!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I was beyond excited when I found out she was writing about vampires, her imagination is unbelievable so it's super exciting to think about how she'll use it with her vampire mythology. Also, I would like to join in the happy dance along with Missie:)

Ooo, we could do a joint happy dance, because I feel so amazing just thinking about this book and just ballsy enough to get up and do one now. *LOL*

I'm so... GOSH. I sosososo FLIPPING want this book. It's because it's Julie. I want to meet vampire princesses and this new heroine who's got the reins on this book. I can't wait to see what twists on the mythology she's come up with as well!

And let's just all do one and get it out of our systems.

<333 Thanks, Angie. I'm so happy to see that I'm not terribly unimaginative for choosing Immortal Rules this week. It seems everyone is after a copy. I love her too. She just downright amazed me with the Iron Fey series.

And I feel so alone, because it seems like everyone has read Freshman Year but me :(

Asher_Knight said...

I know, that gut feeling just takes over. *LOL*

We should totally wear t-shirts, with our stick figure faces on each one. xD I'm convinced that the woman can do anything. I know she won't let us down with this new book.

And Freshman Year has been on my mind a LOT. So has Torn, despite my only liking Switched. *fist-bumps* What are blogger friends for? :DD

Asher_Knight said...

*hangs head* I know. I'm a failure as a person for not having finished the series already. WE SHOULD ALL TOTALLY MEET IN A BASEMENT OR SOMETHING, to discuss why we NEED this book so badly. We have a problem after all. XD

Asher_Knight said...

Thanks, Sarah <3 Oh, NO YOU DIDN'T JUST TELL ME THAT. You. Have. A FLIPPING. ARC?!?! *wails* You're so *sniffles* LUCKY.

lol I know! I totally didn't believe that that actually sent me one! :)

The Immortal Rules looks so awesome. I mean Julie Kagawa isn't my favorite ever BUT The Immortal Rules still really appeals to me and I still think she's a great author.

Also, I love how you have a dust lined component!

Asher_Knight said...

Even if Julie wasn't my favorite author, the sound of this book alone would've totally sucked me in!

And thanks <3

Am I excited? YES! YES  I AM!
Asher... please don't tell me you've only read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I will do anything it takes to get you to read the series. ANYTHING. I will read along with you, or join forces with Brodie to bully you into it. STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND READ HARRY POTTER. NOW. (O____O)

Asher_Knight said...

*fist-bumps* Because Julie Kagawa is G, yo.

*looks down* *shuffles feet* Um. Maybe. Yes. I've only read book one. It's just hard to get the rest of the series, since everyone loves to check it out from the library and I don't have the fundage to buy my own copies of the books. I'm hoping to track down The Chamber of Secrets really soon, though. Promise! *swallows nervously*
