Spoiler-Free ARC Review: Tributary + US/INTL Giveaway

The following review contains

my thoughts in a few sentences: What did I expect from this next mini installment of awesomeness in Lisa’s River of Time novella series? I couldn’t expect, because Lisa is a genius and all. There are so many open roads Lisa is capable of taking our friends—for the characters, at this point, have become our very best of friends—down after the events of Torrent, the third book in the series. And it’s such a wonderful thing, reading as these characters start on new journeys and explore surprises and possibilities. I gobbled this up willingly and greedily, tackling Tributary by Lisa T. Bergren with relentless bites and swallows—everything we love about this series is back! Action, assassination attempts, romance, and it all goes down with fresh characters to join the foray! You don’t want to miss this!

hooking first lines: "She was gaining on him. She leaned hard, pulling on the reins, leaning around a giant oak to pick up his trail again."

Tributary by Lisa T. Bergren
The River of Time Series--a Top Pick for over 20 YA book bloggers in 2011! If you like romance, adventure and a dose of medieval Italian culture, you'll love WATERFALL (book 1), CASCADE (book 2), TORRENT (book 3), as well as the follow-up novellas, BOURNE (book 3.1) and TRIBUTARY (book 3.2).

TRIBUTARY, a novella (1/2 the length of a normal novel), picks up a year after BOURNE... Lia struggles to overcome the fear that constant battle has heaped upon her; Gabi and Marcello face an unexpected crisis; and Lord Greco just may be ready to leave the grief and loss of his past behind him, so that he might grab hold of the future...
There are so many reasons why you should read the River of Times series—it has something for everyone! Even if you’re not in love with historical fiction or time travel novels, you’ll love the River of Time series, because it’s not just about the time period, but about faith, loyalty, and love so strong it transcends time itself. This series is so… powerful, and consuming. The characters are blazing points strewn across a wide sky—there almost isn't enough. There are so many people to connect to and nurture attachments to that everyone garners your protective instinct and undying love and devotion. Their personalities are precious stones—they each sparkle, dazzle, draw the eye, but none of them are exactly the same and are beautiful in their own right. When I say I can’t get enough, it’s like a physical addiction.

Who’s made the return?

The whole crew is here: Gabi, Lia, Luca, Marcello, and everyone we’ve met along the way from Waterfall down to Torrent and after into Bourne. Gabi and Lia, these two sisters, are more connected, more solid than ever. And the relationships with the men they love weave and grow every day. The trust, the loyalty, and admiration is all of a piece, and you can’t help but love the way they love, the way they protect and support each other in the familial sense as well as the romantic sense. Despite their rough patches, they stick together even more now than ever before.

But remember those fresh characters I mentioned? Tributary by Lisa T. Bergren introduces another set of characters into the fold, and I’m already crazy impressed. Warriors at heart, and just as honorable and noble as the Forellis and all whom they’ve adopted into their castello, these characters will prove themselves He and She-Wolf material for sure.

What’s the problem NOW?

In sixteenth century Italy, nothing is ever safe and peaceful and perfect. With few reprieves, battles fought over pride and land are ongoing, so it’s no trouble to imagine there've been yet more problems igniting in this next mini sequel. With enemies far from eliminated and definitely bent on vengeance, Gabi, Lia, and the gang will have constant trials and may never see true rest from it all.

With new characters brings on a newborn wave of threats, framing, and battling impossible to avoid or tide over. It seems the wicked rulers of the Fiorentini are severely reluctant to give up their attempts to be rid of the men and women responsible from barring them from all they yearn to possess and devour.

Other surprises that lie ahead

There’s an excitingly fragile romance brewing with characters who’ve been awaiting the shine, spark, and sizzle that comes along with sixteenth century love. Profound, quick, and absolute tempered by permanence, this romance is such happy business for two characters who’ve seen so much misery, back-stabbing, and abandonment too harsh to bear. This love is infectious and gives us a shot at seeing one of our RoT honeys, all man, steel, and brooding sex appeal, get caught and firmly trapped by subtle Italian beauty and fierce warrior in one unexpected female.

And a certain favorite romance may be coughing up a possibility too frightening to swallow, and so worrisome it’ll make your head spin. What kinds of issues will arise because of this badly timed gift? And who will pay the consequences?

If you’re a fan…

Trust me when I say, if you’re a fan of RoT, you will not be disappointed. In fact, far from. We get multiple perspectives, newbie characters, kidnapping, frontier battles, hilarious flirtation and deep, powerful kisses, mixed in with all the usual stuff—you know, love, strong family ties, and magic in faith! Sweet touches, suspicions, fiery glances, arrows flying, sexy embraces, Tributary by Lisa T. Bergren keeps us disgustingly, thoroughly absorbed.

Quick! A side note

I was so insanely pleased when Lisa asked me to join up with her team of first readers, and so I have to mention I WAS MENTIONED IN A RIVER OF TIME SERIES NOVELLA.
“Special thanks also to Jennifer Crosby for the Italian help, and to readers who helped me proof the manuscript, especially Kristin, Amber, Karin, Julie, Serena, Jen, Britney, Asher, and Katie.”
My soul needs to be quarantined before it creates the Jazz Hands Buzz epidemic.

I would have to back in time to find my medievil Italian knight.  I can't wait to read Tributary.  I am rereading the whole series to be ready to go for more of our beloved knights and she-wolves.  I only wish that tis I that Lord Greco would find.  Sigh....

If I could go to another period in time, it would be between the medieval age, where Chivalry is on a high (supposedly); or I would love to see the Renaissance period. :)

Can I transport myself to the era of avatars? :3 No? Darn! I like the time period now, but I do want to transport to the future just to make sure we didn't kill ourselves yet and hopefully scientists created Batman ;)

I would transport back to the 1800s. :) The era in which Jane Austen's books took place in.

I'd probably love to transport to the Renaissance era in Italy. That was such a beautiful era!

I always have such a hard time with this question (and I'm pretty sure I answer different every time too)! I think if I could guarantee my health and status, I'm much more willing to experiment with like Regency or Victorian era England...I've heard such great things about Waterfall, and am a total sucker for time travel. Thanks for hosting!
