PFS2012 Character Interview: Greta from the Mylena Chronicles + Giveaway

About the Author:
Chloe Jacobs is a native of nowhere and everywhere, having jumped around to practically every Province of Canada before finally settling in Ontario where she has now been living for a respectable number of years. Her husband and son are the two best people in the entire world, but they also make her wish she'd at least gotten a female cat. No such luck. And although the day job keeps her busy, she carves out as much time as possible to write. Bringing new characters to life and finding out what makes them tick and how badly she can make them suffer is one of her greatest pleasures, almost better than chocolate and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.

GRETA AND THE GOBLIN KING is one of those books I'd go out and request if my TBR wasn't so crazy at the moment. It's high fantasy and it appears to be a Hansel and Gretel reimagining with a lot going on. Chloe Jacobs has provided you guys with a way to learn more about her main character, Greta, below!

Chloe: Hello, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Asher Knight! I’m Chloe Jacobs. I’m very excited to be here for the party, and happy to introduce you to my friend, Greta!
Greta: *Glaring* I’m glad someone’s excited.
Chloe: *Whispering* What did I tell you about the attitude?
Greta: *Raising eyebrow* What did I tell you about my pretty new sword?
Chloe: *Shudder* Fine, whatever. But you promised to answer three questions…
Greta: You threatened to have me kidnapped by a freakin’ Berserker in book 2. Do you know how messed up those things are? *huff* So ask me your dumb questions already.
Chloe: *Turning back to audience with a big smile* Hi again everyone. I’m here with the heroine of my book, Greta…from GRETA AND THE GOBLIN KING.
*Turning to Greta* So tell us, what happened to get you where you are today?
Greta: Uh uh, no way. You can’t ask three blanket questions like that. Those are completely open-ended. I won’t be tricked into telling my whole damn life story.
Chloe: Just answer the question.
Greta: *Glare*
Chloe: Holy hell, could you be any more stubborn?
Greta: *Chuckle* Funny, that’s exactly what Isaac says. *Sigh* Look, there’s not much to it. My little brother and I were wandering where we weren’t supposed to one day. When the witch lured him into that cave–
Chloe: What witch?
Greta: Are you going to let me tell this, or not? Just because you’re the writer doesn’t mean you’re the only one who can tell a damn story you know.
Chloe: *Waving hand* Go on, go on. I’m sorry.
Greta: So the witch – which is called a LAMIA, if you must know. They prey on children, luring them into their lair with dreamy promises of their favorite things. Pretty much the sicko stranger leaning out of a car in front of the school yard, calling the kids over with candy in his hands…but with magic and sharp teeth dripping poison like a cobra – anyway, Drew was lured into the cave, and when I went after him, I got myself shoved through an otherworld portal and ended up in Mylena.
Chloe: And what is Mylena?
Greta: Hell.
Chloe: No, seriously.
Greta: Well, it is if you’re human, since humans are reviled, hunted down, and usually beheaded just for being…well, human. To the Mylean people the place is just home. And despite being a world of eternal winter, they all seem to get along there just fine, except for when they’re chasing the moons, that is.
Chloe: What does that mean?
Greta: Every Mylean is subject to the pull of the moons, and if they’re not careful they can even become Lost to it. Once that happens, they have no control over their wild side. In fact, they’re the reason I have a job. I’m a bounty hunter. I track down the ones who have turned, hopefully before they have a chance to attack anyone else. I take care of the Lost, who can never come back. It puts food in my mouth and money in my pocket, so I can’t really complain, I guess.
Chloe: Maybe, but that must have changed you. After realizing that you’re stuck in a strange place with no way to return to your family, to be forced to face creatures like that had to be scary?
Greta: *Shrug* Is that a question?
Chloe: Well…no. I think right now the readers would rather know about this Isaac guy. So who is he?
Greta: *Grin*
Chloe: Well? …
Greta: You already asked your three questions. I think we’re done here.
Chloe: *Counting back* … Why you dirty little *bleep bleep bleep*!!

While trying to save her brother from the witch three years ago, Greta was thrown into the fire herself, falling through a portal to a dangerous world where humans are the enemy, and every ogre, goblin, and ghoul has a dark side that comes out with the full moon.

To survive, 17-year-old Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young Goblin King, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her determination to escape.

But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. The full moon is mere days away, and an ancient evil being knows she’s the key to opening the portal. If Greta fails, she and the boys she finds stranded in the woods will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back...

Greta, you seem to be one tough chick. And badass as well, considering you're... you know, a bounty hunter. Thanks, Chloe and Greta, for stopping by! Comment below if you're the consort of the goblin king or a witch offering Kit Kats.

I would like to be known as someone who is a bad A, and takes no prisoners.

First of all, this book sounds really fun. I hadn't heard of it before this event - so thank you Asher! I love books that re-tell. Also I have a kid named Greta. So YAY!

Second, this interview is fun fun fun. So thank you Chloe. Made me laugh. :)

Third, if I had to be known as a bounty hunter, I think I'd like to be known as an assassin/bounty hunter. Technically, I don't really think that counts as an answer - but it's my answer. I just want to be kick-butt. OR...I wouldn't mind maybe being a rock-star bounty-hunter with an awesome voice because I've always loved singing, but that doesn't mean that I *should be* singing...(not typical answers, but they are MINE!)

I love character interviews. I'm already liking the sound of Greta; she seems badass and like a troublemaker :)

Oopsies, forgot to answer the question. If I had to be known as a bounty hunter, I'd like to be someone who's feared.
