PFS2012 Character Interview: Queen Titania from Innocent Darkness

One of my most anticipated titles of the year is definitely Suzanne's INNOCENT DARKNESS, which is described as a fairy tale steampunk. Not only does it have an absolutely beautiful and fitting cover, but the story just sounds so fantastic and readable! Here today, we welcome Queen Tiana, high queen of the Otherworld, from INNOCENT DARKNESS thanks to Suzanne Lazear.

Queen Titania: It’s so nice of you to have me here. Princess Ash? What exactly are you princess of?

Internet surfing, shameless crying, and this blog. Where exactly is the Otherworld?

Queen Titania: The Otherworld simply is. Some mortals call it Faerie. If I must use boring, mortal scientific terms I suppose you might say it’s a parallel universe that’s made entirely of sentient magic. The Otherworld also has a symbiotic relationship with the mortal realm. But that is so dull and boring.

You’re not only queen, but a mother. Is it difficult to balance being high queen with having a family?

Queen Titania: My children are being difficult, as children of a certain age often are. They spend most of their time with their father—as for him, well, let’s just say we had differences as to where we wanted to go in life. But that’s also so very boring. Being queen over all the courts certainly keeps me busy.

What exactly does the high queen of the Otherworld do?

Queen Titania: The high queen, and yes, it’s always a queen, unites the four elemental courts of the Otherworld– Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. She makes sure the courts don’t destroy each other with feuding, the dark court doesn’t run amok, and that generally the Otherworld has what she needs to survive. This, of course, means ensuring that a mortal girl is found to be sacrificed every seven years – though I don’t personally find the girl. I have people to do that for me.

When not seeing to your kingdom, what do you like to do for fun?

Queen Titania: I detest being bored—and too much work is so boring. Sometimes I’ll send the wild hunt to go hunt things. It’d quite amusing to see the Fae hounds rip people to shreds. I enjoy playing games in the garden with my royal ladies. I also like to collect mechanical toys and animals. Sometimes, I’ll make someone go invent something for me. You just reminded me that I’m getting bored with my collection. I think I should send my eldest son to find me something new. Yes, that’s a very good idea.

Do you stay in the Otherworld or do you every go into the mortal realm?

Queen Titania: ~laughs~ Me? Go into the mortal realm? If I need something, I have people to do that for me.

Is there anything else you’d like to say?

Queen Titania: Never cross the high queen. She always gets what she wants in the end. After all, why be queen if you can’t have everything your way?

Innocent Darkness has been on my TBR list for a while. It's been getting a lot of mixed reviews, so I've been a bit hesitant, but I definitely want to give this book a chance! Queen Titania's interview was great! Thanks for stopping by!
