Welcome Citizen to Black City, one of our nation’s most diverse and historical cities! To make your stay more enjoyable, the Sentry Department of Commerce and Leisure has issued this useful guide to ensure you and your family has a fun and pleasant stay!
TIP 1: Don’t go out at night
Curfew is at nine o’clock and is signaled by three long blasts on the air raid siren. All Citizens are required to immediately return to their homes and bolt their doors and windows. Those found outside after curfew will be arrested.
TIP 2: Don’t forget your anti-Wrath spray
Citizens are advised to carry cans of Go Away Wrath Spray! with them at all times, which is available at all good chemists and local markets. Failure to do so can result in death.
TIP 3: Don’t provoke the Darklings
Citizens should not torment the Legion guards patrolling the Boundary Wall. Anyone caught breaking this rule will be shot on sight.
TIP 4: Ensure your servants wear ID bracelets
Darkling servants are advised to wear ID bracelets at all times. You can buy an ID bracelet from our world famous jewelers Smithers, Smythe and Sons. Those discovered without an ID bracelet will be executed.
TIP 5: Don’t climb the Boundary Wall
Do not attempt to climb the Boundary Wall. It is forbidden to enter the Legion without prior written permission from Emissary Buchanan. Failure to follow this rule will result in death.
We hope you have an enjoyable time in Black City, and don’t forget to ride our famous streetcars, take a boat trip along the canals or visit the Black City Library – home of the first ever edition of the Book of Creation by Purian Rose!
Addendum: Since the printing of this brochure, the Black City Library has burnt down. The Sentry Department of Commerce and Leisure would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
A dark and tender post-apocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war.
In a city where humans and Darklings are now separated by a high wall and tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war, sixteen-year-olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary, meet and do the unthinkable—they fall in love. Bonded by a mysterious connection that causes Ash’s long-dormant heart to beat, Ash and Natalie first deny and then struggle to fight their forbidden feelings for each other, knowing if they’re caught, they’ll be executed—but their feelings are too strong.
When Ash and Natalie then find themselves at the center of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to pull the humans and Darklings back into war, they must make hard choices that could result in both their deaths.
