Roar: I know you’re jealous of many of my talents but if you had to pick just one, which would it be?
Perry: (laughs) Here’s a question for you, Roar. What is it like to feel like the world revolves around you?
Roar: Amazing, actually. Really great. Next question… Why do you think Aria is more attracted to you than me? Don't you find it strange? Because I do.
Perry: I’m not answering that.
Roar: That’s all right. There is no logical answer. Next one… Do you have any tricks for blocking out scents? What's the worst thing you’ve ever smelled?
Perry: (shakes head, tries not to laugh) No tricks and skunk.
Roar: That was easy. All right. So if we still had sports like before the Unity, which would one you play? What position would you be?
Perry: You keep saying one question and then you ask two.
Roar: I didn’t realize you were counting.
Perry: Come on, Ro. Let’s get this over with.
Roar: You didn’t answer—
Perry: Either rugby or football. (shrugs) Because of my size.
Roar: I could see you as a quarterback.
Perry: I could, too. I have good aim.
Roar: Great aim--and I’m fast. I have good hands and I could blow past anyone. We’d make a hell of a team with me as wide receiver.
Perry: Everything really does relate back to you.
Roar: As it should, Perry. As it should. All right, so… what book are you reading right now? Just kidding. But if you could read without any problem, what kind of book would you like?
Perry: Maybe a book about a guy who pummels his best friend for asking stupid questions.
Roar: That doesn’t sound like a very good story. Last one. If you had to take Aria on a date in the Realms, what would you do?
Perry: None of your damn business.
Roar: You want to know where I’d take her?
Perry: (stands) I’m done.
Roar: (following Perry out) You took that better than I expected...
Since she'd been on the outside, she'd survived an Aether storm, she'd had a knife held to her throat, and she'd seen men murdered. This was worse.
Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland - known as The Death Shop - are slim. If the cannibals don't get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She's been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild - a savage - and her only hope of staying alive.
A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile - everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.
